Alani Nightingale

Alani Nightingale (born Gideon Olasunkanmi Adeola) is a celebrated Nigerian, American based folk jazz musician whose career spans decades, marked by a profound commitment to blending African musical traditions with the improvisational spirit of jazz music.

His musical journey began in the vibrant soundscapes of Nigerian churches, where the rhythms and melodies ignited a lifelong passion for creating unique soundscapes.

A largely self-taught musician, Alani honed his craft through dedicated practice and extensive study of global music traditions, with a particular focus on jazz’s rich history and techniques. Rooted in his Nigerian heritage, especially Yoruba folklore, his compositions seamlessly merge intricate African rhythmic structures with the complex harmonies and improvisational freedom of Western jazz.

Beyond his musical talent, Alani holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Ado-Ekiti (Nigeria). Furthering his intellectual curiosity, he pursued studies in African American history, philosophy, and humanities at Bard College, the University of Chicago.

Alani is equally dedicated to music education. He has served as a music instructor at several esteemed academic institutions across Africa, specializing in African music history and performance. He cultivates creativity and technical proficiency in his students while imparting an understanding of jazz's global history.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Alani often composes, arranges, records, and produces his own music in his private music studio, using instruments such as the horns, African percussion instruments, western continuo instruments, and manipulating his own vocal capacity to suits different ranges that fits his compositions.

In 2016, Alani relocated to the United States, fully embracing his identity as a performing and touring African folk jazz musician. As the leader of his big band, Tribal Invaders, he has captivated audiences at renowned jazz festivals worldwide. His distinctive genre, dubbed LIMUAJAZZICALS, fuses traditional African rhythms with intricate jazz improvisation, creating a sound that is both innovative and deeply rooted in heritage.

Alani’s contributions to the jazz community have garnered him accolades, including the prestigious African Jazz Musician of the Year award in Chicago. His passion for African jazz and his dedication to mentoring the next generation of musicians have firmly established him as a leading figure in the global music scene.
